Base times height, to the beat! Sing along and explore the area of rectangles, squares and triangles.

TRACK 01 / WATCH AND LISTEN
Area in Rhythm
Geometry in music
For rectangles and squares, multiply base by height. A triangle has half the area of a parallelogram with the same base and height, so divide by two.
FOR THE CLASSROOM
From the song to the shapes
01 / LISTEN
Watch the video together and find the base and height of each shape.
02 / OBSERVE
Look at how shapes can be rearranged, and how two matching triangles can make a parallelogram.
03 / DISCUSS
Compare the shapes: what changes about the shape, and what happens to its area?
